High gas prices are causing many to reconsider their driving plans. If gas prices are giving you second thoughts, here are some you can save money on gas:

1. Keep your car in tune. Incorrect fuel ratio, bad spark plugs and incorrect spark timing can have a huge effect on gas mileage.
2. Don't use your air conditioner unless you really need it. The air conditioning puts an extra strain on the engine.
3. Keep your windows closed when possible. Open windows actually reduce gas mileage compared to using the air conditioning.
4. Inflate tires correctly. Under-inflated tires cause more resistance and reduce gas mileage.
5. Avoid stop-and-go traffic by planning alternative routes or less congested travel times.
6. Ask other people with the same type of car what kind of gas mileage they get; it may alert you to a problem with your car.
7. Use a good grade of engine oil, preferably a synthetic or standard oil treated with a friction-reducing oil additive. These are known to improve fuel economy by as much as 12 percent.
8. Reduce the weight in your car as much as possible.
9. Use the cruise control whenever possible.
10. Keeping your highway speed at 55 mph improves mileage by as much as 25 percent compared to 75 mph.
11. Avoid increasing speed while climbing a hill; your engine is already working hard trying to overcome gravity.
12. Remove accessories such as luggage racks that lower the aerodynamics of your auto.
